SYDNEY
Photo diary of an afternoon spent exploring a 2,300 sq meter warehouse that houses retro, bohemian, vintage and antique treasures from countless eras & works to preserve cultural objects from our history that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
The final night of Vivid 2016, Sydney's annual winter lights festival. Projections, light sculptures, and interactive light displays turn downtown Sydney and its historic landmarks into an illuminated canvas.
MELBOURNE
After a very wet & windy stint on the Great Ocean Road, Tyson and I found ourselves in the city of Melbourne - short on time, hungry for inspiration & something delicious to eat that didn't come from a highway roadhouse.
Upon arriving in Victoria after months spent in remote areas of the country, we was itching to explore the city of Melbourne - a place known for its vibrant arts & cafe culture.
Naturally we headed straight to Fitzroy - arguably the most creative and eclectic part of the city. This area has been described as the inner-city mecca for Melbourne’s alternative scene and it’s no surprise why.
Wandering down Brunswick street, Melbourne's inner-city mecca for the arts & the alternative. This neighbourhood offers no shortage of unique & quirky shops, studios & cafe’s to check out. Below are some of the photos from our afternoon, enjoy & leave a comment if you recognize any of the work or artists.
Brisbane
This is a look into an evening art class in the home & studio of Australian fine artist Philip Farley—a space straight out of a storybook surrounded by bushland and countless species of native wildlife. While studying upstairs I snuck down to snap a few shots of a cozy winter night of creativity, tea, and some fine art coaching.
Before becoming a full-time fine artist—Philip earned a living in the world of advertising. Out of college he received a job as a commercial illustrator at an ad agency, it was fascinating flipping through his collection of work from the span of his career before fine art.
Located in beautiful New Farm on the banks of Brisbane River, the Powerhouse is a versatile venue and former power station that has been transformed into a bussing hub for contemporary culture, hosting over 1,200 performances and free community events each year.
Photo diary of a night spent with the good folk of The End bar—a local favourite in one of Brisbane's most eclectic neighbourhoods. This venue was born out of the ashes of Trash Video—a cult movie rental store (the last one in the city) and haven of all things cinematically obscure.
If you're in Brisbane looking for a devilishly funky Mexican joint to down some tacos and tequila in, look no further than Chingon. Opened up by two brothers from Mexico city that wanted to bring real flavour, authentic cuisine, and a casual late night atmosphere to Brisbane's CBD.
In celebration of 10 years of contemporary art, GOMA—Queensland's Gallery of Modern Art hosts an exhibit to inspire and entice the senses. When it comes its cultural & creative scene, Brisbane may be one of Australia's best kept secrets.
South Australia
A winter's day alone on one of the most scenic drives in the world. A photo diary from the Great Ocean Road - kissed by wind & rains, beautiful as ever. Despite the things we were told of wind warnings and wetness, we wouldn't write off this time of the year for a visit. There is a certain charm to the winter's chill and having the wide expanse of coast all to yourself.
There was this wonderful feeling of returning home once we hit the expansive coniferous forests of Southern Australia. This territory was so different from anything else we had experienced in this country. The landscape was made up of lush green rolling hills littered with sheep & the air was crisp and invigorating after a long journey.
Photo diary of an afternoon spent soaking in the golden sun exploring one of Australia's most breathtaking natural landscapes. This World Heritage-listed area is must-see when staying in Sydney, the Blue Mountains are located only 2 hours outside of the city and are accessible by train.
